Hello Louis Riel Families,

Although it’s hard to believe, our first day of school with our students will be Thursday August 31 starting at 8:00 am (ending at 2:50 pm). After a restful summer the teaching team are all excited to welcome our students back to learning at Louis Riel for the 2023-24 school year. The first day is always a big one for students regardless of their age and we hope to make the transition back to the business and fun of learning a supportive and enjoyable one.

Grades 1-9 Day 1 Plan

On Tuesday you will receive an email from one of our homeroom teachers with specific meeting instructions and a location for the morning of our first day. Homeroom teachers plan to collect their students, confirm names on class lists, and support students who need help finding their homeroom teachers. Once teachers have collected their students they will take them to their classrooms to get started with the day.

New and returning students will receive an orientation (or reorientation) about all things Louis Riel and what makes this such a great place to learn. Grade 7, 8, and 9 students will receive their timetables and everyone will learn about upcoming extracurricular opportunities and athletics.

Kindergarten Staggered Entry Day 1 Plan

We have a modified day 1 plan to support the unique needs of our brand new learners. Students will be divided by last name to attend a soft-opening schedule for AM and PM Kindergarten this year.

Thursday August 31

• AM Kindergarten class last names A-F attend 8:00 - 9:15am
• AM Kinder class last names G-Z attend 9:40 - 10:55am
• PM Kinder class last names A-P attend 12:00 - 1:15pm
• PM Kinder class last names 1:40 - 2:50pm

Friday September 1

• All AM Kinder students attend 8:00 - 9:15am
• All PM Kinder students attend 9:40 -10:55am

For students who arrive to Louis by school bus, routes will not be posted online; individual stop information will be available to families who have pre-registered for transportation for the 2023-24 school year through MyCBE. More bussing information can be found on the CBE Transportation page.  

Our main office will begin opening on Monday August 28.  Once our office team can complete their initial office and school start-up processes we hope to be able to open phone lines and emails by noon. Please know the office team is here to support our new and returning families as best we can and any requests will be responded to as quickly as possible.
