Welcome back (almost) to another year of learning at Louis Riel School,
We hope you have enjoyed your summer break and have taken time to enjoy a different seasonal routine. Although we would agree that the summer break is a time to relax and recover from a busy year of learning and growing it can also start to feel a bit long by this time of year. Your student(s) may not want to admit it but they're probably as excited to get back to Louis as our teachers are next week. The office will officially open on Wednesday next week but we already have teachers and staff in the building working diligently to prepare for the arrival of our students.
We will have classroom and homeroom teachers reach out to families by the end of the day on Tuesday with a welcome email. This email will provide you with all of the information your student will need to find their classroom or homeroom teacher on the first day. They will let you know the time and precise location of where they can meet each other and be confirmed on their class list. Staff will be outside to greet families and direct students to their meeting points so they can connect with their new teacher and fellow classmates.
Our website has an excellent starting point for families looking for back to school information for the first day of classes. You will find helpful information about transportation, programs, calendars, fees & waivers and how to make sure you're receiving email updates from the school. Speaking of email, it is critically important that our families sign up to receive messaging from the school via SchoolMessenger. It is the primary means by which schools share information with our community about events, updates, and newsletters. Sign up to receive communication through SchoolMessenger here
You can also refer to our school website for information to see some new names on staff and our restructured teaching teams for this year.
MyCBE may not provide you with much information just yet as it has been disabled until the first day of classes. Class lists and option classes are still being finalized and we continue to adjust to accommodate enrolment changes over the summer.
Your student may be asking about school supplies. We are happy to share that all K to Gr. 6 students will have essential supplies provided to them. If your student happens to have their own school supplies that they would prefer to use they're absolutely welcome to do so. Grade 7 to 9 students are expected to come with their own binder, paper, and writing implements. Students may find that their organizational skills have improved or could use some help so they may need a bit more or less coaching from their teachers.
Start and End times will remain the same as last year
Grades 1-9: Mon-Thurs: 8:00-2:50 and Fri: 8:00-11:40
Kindergarten: Mon-Thurs: AM 8:00am-10:52am PM 11:59 - 2:50 and Fridays will rotate between am and pm classes 8:00am-10:52am
Lockers will be available to Grade 6 to Grade 9 students
Louis Riel remains an "Away for the Day" school where cell phones and other smart devices are put away in lockers so the devices are physically away from the students.
There will be additional "opening day" information sent soon so please keep a watchful eye on your email inbox early next week.
We look forward to seeing all of our students for the first official day of school on Thursday, August 29 at 8:00am
