Hello Louis Riel Families

The Calgary Board of Education considers a school year 181 instructional days and we just completed number 177.5. Next week will be the final three and half days of the 2024-25 school year and there will be an abundance of activities and events running to keep our students engaged. We have a full spirit week planned by our Leadership students for the entire school:

  • Mon: Iconic Duo Day / Fun Event: Find the Butterfly
  • Tues: Beach Day / Talent Show(s) Fun Event: Rock Paper Scissors Tourney
  • Weds: Multicolour & Crazy Hat Day / Sports Day
  • Thurs: PJ and Crazy Hair Day

We’re all looking forward to this final week of celebrating another amazing year of learning and growing together at Louis Riel. We hope you’ll all bring the best Bison version of yourselves every day to make these final days a success for our students leaders, teachers, and all of your fellow Bisons. Between now and the end of the year make it your goal to show up every day, do your very best, and enjoy every last minute of being at Louis Riel because after June 26 you won’t be back in the building until September 2 unless you're in Grade 9 now. Trust me; showing up at Junior High again at the end of the summer would be weird. Best of luck to our departing Grade 9s as they hear off to high school next year.

Thanks for taking the time to read the entire Bison Bulletin or simply the bolded points in the bulletin that apply to you and your student.

Report Cards are Coming!!!

Report cards are published twice a year to formally communicate student achievement of learning outcomes to students, parents/guardians, the CBE and the province. Reporting requires teachers to summarize the learning that has taken place over the course of the reporting period with an emphasis on the most recent level of understanding students demonstrate. The body of evidence collected by teachers determines which grade most accurately represents the level of understanding of grade-level learning outcomes. The extent to which the student has demonstrated achievement of learning outcomes is reported by achievement indicators of 1-4 in Kindergarten to grade 9 and is also supported with report card comments.

Like most schools, Louis Riel has moved to digital report cards. For help with accessing student assessment and reporting information, please refer to the information in the MyCBE Technical Support for Students & Parents website.

Accessing Academic and Assessment Information Online

Even though report cards are only published twice a year, families can always access achievement information through MyCBE and are also encouraged to reach out to our teaching team to discuss how we can work together to support our students. If you are looking for current information about how or what your student is doing in class, log in to MyCBE with your student to ask them to help you understand what they’ve been working on or if they need any help to complete overdue or missing assignments.

Staffing Updates

Now that the CBE has completed the final round of spring staffing for 2025-26 we have some staffing updates to share as a number of our teachers have secured positions at new schools next year. Mr. Groves, Ms. Selzler, Mrs. Larose, and Ms. Shustack will all be moving on from Louis Riel to join new schools next year. We wish them all well as they take the next steps in their teaching careers in their new schools with new students and their new colleagues.

Louis Riel Parent and School Council(s)

Although our final Parent Society and School Council Meeting of the year took place on the evening of May 28 one of the previously approved purchase items arrived and was installed this week: we now have two new scooter racks! Thank you sooooo much for this purchase; they’re already being used by our students. Next year, Council meetings will continue to provide families the opportunity to learn about events, initiatives, and other school related business they support as enhancements to learning experiences or the learning environment at Louis Riel School. See you next school year!

Ongoing Fundraiser: Cobs Bread Collaboration

LRPSC is happy to announce our recent collaboration with Cobs Bread in Shawnessy (70 Shawville Blvd SE). With every purchase made at this location with the code #6169, 10% of that purchase will be donated back to Louis Riel Parent Society and School Council for the benefit of our kids.

GATE Parent Association

The GATE Parent Association is comprised of parents whose children attend the Calgary Board of Education’s GATE Program. The GATE Parent Association is unique in that it represents parents and supports the GATE Program in all GATE schools, but it is independent of the Calgary Board of Education and other parent organizations within those schools. If you have a student registered in GATE for this current school year, you are a member of the GPA.

Fun Lunches

All done for the year! We’ll be sure to announce when they resume for the 2025-26 school year.

Louis Riel is a busy and dynamic K-9 school, and it can be challenging to keep up with everything that happens here daily. Providing families with multiple information streams and sources including our website, teacher/classroom emails, paperwork for field trips, and the Bison bulletin should cover everything that families need to know. Thanks for reading the bulletins this year.
