Hello Louis Riel families,

Happy spring break to you all! We hope you’ll enjoy a shift in schedules and activities over the coming week even though the weather seems to have taken a turn towards winter rather than spring. Shoveling sidewalks rather than riding a bike or other warmer outside activities seems a bit out of place at this time of year if you live anywhere else other than Calgary. This is just one of the many charms of living in the grasslands and foothills of the Rocky Mountains where the Elbow and Bow rivers meet, isn’t it?

The final week of school leading up to the break involved a Spirit week planned by the Leadership class that included Monochromatic Monday, Decade Day on Tuesday, Socks & Sandals on Wednesday, and Culture Day on Thursday. As always, students enjoyed the opportunity to mix up their wardrobe and participate in some or all the themed days. We also had our School Conferences in person on Thursday evening and online Friday. The opportunity to sit with families and discuss how to support students’ achievement of improved outcomes or other successes is something our staff always look forward to. Although every student is unique, as stakeholders and partners in education, we share the goal of ensuring student well-being and success.

Thank you sooooooo much to the LRPAC and all the families who generously contributed to the staff taco potluck on Thursday evening. Everyone was thrilled to see the taco-bar themed event come together and all staff left their dinner break very well fed. Events like this are truly appreciated by all of us. Gracias!

March is nearly behind us, and a week of Spring is ahead of us but please read on to find out more about important upcoming events and activities.

Locker Relocation Project

Seeking out and acting on student feedback about well-being is critical to supporting a safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive school. After collecting feedback from students about the crowding they experience at lockers during transition times we needed to act. Over the Spring Break, CBE carpenters and trades will be relocating a bank of lockers to reduce hallway congestion and locker crowding during transitions. We’re excited to see this project under way, and we hope this will effectively address the challenge of this hectic hallway.

Louis Riel Parent and School Council(s)

Please visit our website to see what’s new.

Before our March meeting last week, we sent an invitation to all our families to attend minutes before we began. The last-minute invitation seemed to work as we saw a few new faces and heard new voices. The goal of these meetings is to have as many attendees as possible, so we hope you’ll attend an upcoming meeting and participate in opportunities to engage in dialogue about all things Louis.

Our next online council meeting is scheduled for April 24 starting at 6:30pm

GPA Parent Association

The GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Parent Association is a registered, non-profit volunteer organization, committed to supporting a high-quality GATE Program which meets the needs of learners who are gifted, within the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).

The GATE Parent Association is unique in that it represents parents and supports the GATE Program in all GATE schools, but it is independent of the Calgary Board of Education and other parent organizations within those schools. To learn more please visit our website!

Lost and Found at Louis Riel

Please remind your student(s) to walk by our lost and found to locate any lost or misplaced clothing and lunch container items and take them home. If your student regularly loses items at school, please also consider sewing nametags on their clothing items.

We can only keep lost and found items on display for so long until we are left to assume that they are no longer wanted. Twice a year we donate unclaimed items from the lost and found to charitable organizations to share with those who are in need.
