Hello Louis Families,
This very short week saw new and returning students walking through the doors at Louis Riel to reconnect with classmates, friends, teachers, and the routine of learning and growing together. Our school has grown this year thanks to our reputation across the city, and continued interest in the GATE and Science programs we offer. It was fantastic to see new and returning students alike as we hosted smaller grade cohorts in the gyms to welcome them and invite them to get to know each other not only as new or returning students, but as fellow Bisons. The first few days of the year are always busy with movement and excitement as students come together in large numbers to share news of their summer adventures and to learn about the upcoming year's plans in a new grade or class. Our staff, both recently added and veterans alike, were eager to get to know our new and returning students, confirm who would be on their class lists, set up classrooms, re-establish school expectations, manage locker assignments, and begin to share learning plans for the year.
Open and regular communication between the school, our staff, and our families is critical to maintain our collaborative efforts to support student success and positive learning outcomes for our school community members. Some families attempted to call the school during the final days of summer only to find that voicemails could not be left or were not returned. We experienced a significant disruption to our phone services as a component of our line management system failed at a most inopportune time. We apologize for the inconvenience and would always encourage our families to email the school if phone communication is not available. You can expect to continue to hear from teachers on a weekly basis and to read a Bison Bulletin every other week. Our school website www.louisriel.cbe.ab.ca is a helpful resource where you can find information about the school and helpful links to other supports, forms, publications, and information.
Attendance at Louis: If you are reading this bulletin and your student has not yet returned to school please email our office staff at louisriel@cbe.ab.ca to confirm that your student will or will not be attending Louis Riel School this year.
Bussing at Louis: Start up can be challenging for some families as transportation routes and busses organize. We are working with our service provider to support successful and safe transportation for all our students. Helpful links: CBE Transportation / Bus Monitor
