Hello Louis Riel families,
The countdown to summer continues as we approach the final short week of school next week. The timing of key events such as exams and the final day of school changes a bit every year and this year is no exception. Although the end date for the final days doesn’t move much more than a day or two, we’ve seen a shift in PAT dates this year that leave us with a week to go once they’ve been wrapped up. Some of you may have heard from your students that there isn’t much left to do but I hope more of you have heard that our final days of the year together are going to be full of activities and spirit building to not only wrap up the year but also to lay the foundation for next year. The opportunity this presents our staff and students is new and exciting for us all: we can focus on cleaning up loose ends and closing on a symphony of high notes without the time pressure of previous years when we only had a day or two.
The final week will be full of year end experiences, ongoing learning, celebrating student skills and talents, and spirit building. Students will also be bringing home completed schoolwork, projects, and desk/locker items so please consider sending a suitable bag like a reusable grocery bag to help them carry everything. Don’t forget that Thursday is an early dismissal day so please plan accordingly. Next week will include our final spirit week of the year. The daily themes are as follow:
Mon: Beach Day, Tues: Stampede Day, Weds: Sports Day, Thurs: Talent Show
We’re all looking forward to the student planned year-end activities and wrapping up the year riding a wave of positive Bison spirit.
Please read on for more updates and announcements.
Staffing Announcements
This time of year is exciting for many reasons and staff taking the opportunity to move on to teach at other buildings is always exciting news to share. We will have several new staff members joining the Louis Riel team next year as we fill teacher vacancies and new positions. Some staff have been with us this year on temporary contracts and some will be new to the school. We are actively searching for and hiring the best teaching staff we can find in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates in the final Bison bulletins of the school year.
Lost and Found at Louis Riel
Missing any items of clothing that your student brought to school in the past month or two? There is a chance they’re waiting to get retrieved from our lost and found. Please remind your student to look through all the clothing, shoes, water bottles, and lunch containers that need to be returned to their owners this week. Unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the week.
Lost and Found Items from Camp Chief Hector
There is an upcoming Lost and Found Retrieval Night for items left behind at camp during Spring Outdoor Schools.
Date: Weds, June 26 Time: 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Location: Rocky Ridge YMCA, Art Studio C
During this event, we will have staff available to help identify and return lost items to their rightful owners. Please encourage parents and guardians to attend if their children have attended camp recently and might be missing any personal belongings.
Best regards,
Outdoor Programs Supervisor YMCA Calgary, Camp Chief Hector
Attendance In June
We have noticed a growing trend in late arrivals in the morning and early departures around the lunch break among our Grade 7 to 9 students. Please ensure any early departures are reported to the office so we can account for all our students. Late arrivals may be caused by any number of reasons, but please be mindful of the time as it can be disorienting for your student to know where to go if their class is outside or off campus for an activity. If you know your student leaves campus at lunchtime, please remind them they must be in class ready to learn by 12:56 when classes start. If they are going home with no plan to return to school, please let us know.
Louis Riel Parent and School Council(s)
Our final meeting of the year was the AGM held on May 29th. We would like to thank the council’s continued dedication to supporting students and their learning experience at Louis Riel School. We truly appreciate your efforts and generosity. We look forward to working together towards an even better Louis Riel School next year.
