Bison Bulletin Jan. 15-19 | Volleyball, School Council, GPA Parent Association, Open House, Science Fair,
Hello Louis Riel families,
After what felt like a long two weeks of winter break we saw our staff and many sleepy students making their way through the entrances to Louis on Monday morning. As the week progressed and students readjusted to the regular school-day appropriate bedtimes, our bison community managed to reestablish the usual rhythm of teaching and learning together. With the intense cold that settled over much of Alberta, we all felt and saw the impacts of arctic temperatures. Getting to and from school in comfort and safety became a priority for everyone and we actually saw some of our teenaged students walking in the doors with their jackets on and fully zipped up! Our staff and students shifted to indoor recess and lunch schedules seamlessly and although there wasn’t much opportunity to be outside, everyone was kept safe and warm.
Volleyball Season Is Under Way!
All of our Div. 3 volleyball teams began tryouts this week. Seniors started the week and the junior teams wrapped up tryouts. Teams are being finalized and we look forward to another exciting season of play for our student athletes. Go Bisons!
Next Louis Riel Parent and School Council(s) meeting is January 31, 2024
Each month we invite teachers from different divisions, departments, and programs present to council and community about the teaching and learning going on in their classrooms and beyond. This month’s teacher presentation will be Ms. Neamtu who will talk about student services/resource at Louis Riel School and how she facilitates upcoming High School Transitions. A reminder that all current minutes and agendas are available on the LRPAC website: https://www.wearelouis.ca/ under Agendas and Minutes.

Annual Open House Feb 1
Louis Riel is home to our GATE program and Science program yet they both have their own unique admissions processes. GATE program admissions rely on an internal referral and committee selection process whereas Science program admissions are subject to a lottery due to demand and capacity limitations. In order to maintain enrolment levels, the Science program relies not only on our reputation but also through active promotion through events such as school visits and our annual open house.
This event will be taking place on the evening of February 1st and will involve opportunities for prospective new families as well as our current families to learn about the school, our programs, and the learning that takes place here. Presentations for new and prospective families will begin the evening in the gym and then classrooms will be opened to showcase and celebrate student learning at Louis Riel. Please save the date and spread the word!
Science Fair is Almost Here
We’re counting down the days until our young scientists bring their completed projects to display in the annual science fair. We sincerely appreciate all of the energy our students put into this event and all of the support our families provide each and every year. Over the next few weeks please check in with your young scientist(s) to learn how they’re doing and to help them manage any last minute refinements and adjustments.
